Don't Wanna Let Go

I wrote this one not too long after one of several "rejections" I faced in my high school years.  Looking back, I can't imagine how it could possibly have worked, but you never see that when you're going through it.

We've got to talk.
I've got a lot on my mind.
I'm searchin' for love
And it's so hard to find.

"It can't be us,"
Is what you said,
But you're the one
That stays in my head.

Don't wanna let go.
Can't explain why.
Can't admit that it won't be
Forever you and I.

It's very true.
I want you to know that if you need me
I'll be there for you.

I try to push these feelings
As far as they'll go,
But they don't want to leave.
You're the best friend I know.

To tell myself I don't love you
Is like saying I can control the sun
But I can't bring myself to do that
'Cause you'll always be the one.

Letting go
Is so hard to do.
You don't know how it hurts
Not to be near you.

"It can't be us."
When you said it, I died.
It's true that love hurts
When it comes from one side.

Tell me all your reasons for no.
I'll give you twice that much for yes.
It isn't fair.  You shouldn't see
My heart in such a mess.
