I Will
Wait
A Heart's Prayer
I don't remember the exact date this was written, except that it was sometime after I moved to Cincinnati in late '98. An interesting little factoid is that stanza 6 refers to someone specific, who is now actually married to a very decent guy. It was a crush, but the feelings were welling up pretty strong, prompting me to write this poem. It is a reminder to me that emotions and circumstances should not be what I rely on to make life decisions, especially when it has to do with who I'll eventually marry. I can think of more than one beautiful young lady who I thought was the right one, but I have to constantly remind myself that I must wait on God to show me who I will spend the rest of my life with. The wait will be worth it. I just know it.
When temptations try to beat me
down,
I will wait, O Lord, and stand my ground.
Though desires strive to reel me in,
I will wait, and will not sin.
The flesh says, Why not take it
now?
But I will wait, I make this vow.
To turn to you, stay by your side,
Rest in your arms and there abide.
And even good, though good may be,
May not be your best for me,
And because it is your best I seek,
I will wait, I will wait on thee.
Though desires overwhelm my soul,
Your perfect Will shall be my goal.
I will wait through endless nights,
For you will lead when all is right.
I will wait, O Lord, for your
guiding Hand
To lead me to the one you've planned
To be the helper for my needs.
I will wait, O Lord, on thee.
Though the angels dance within her
eyes
And her beauty seems the perfect prize
And her presence makes my heart skip beats,
I will wait, Lord, 'til you guide my feet.
I will make no move until Your
time,
When your provision brings her heart to mine,
Then what to do will be so plain,
And we will praise and glorify your name.
Lord, I pray you help my faith to
stand,
And hold me firm in Your guiding Hand.
Lord, let this faith to others show
That God provides. Lord, let them know.
Lord, may they see that you are
true,
That answering prayers is what you do.
May they see, through thick and thin,
What You'll do for me, You can do for them.
If what I
ask no glory brings
To your sweet name, grant not this thing.
So until others your glory see,
I will wait. I will wait on thee.
