Just Like You

Here's one from my high school years I can actually relate to at this point in my life.  When my relationships haven't worked out, one of the positive things I've been able to carry away from them is having learned different characteristics that appeal to me in a mate.  In a way, I can say these words to some extent to all of the young ladies who have been a special part of my life.

Sometimes I think back
To the times we've had.
Some of them were great.
Others were bad.

When we left
It made me cry
But we had reasons
And understood why.

If I find someone else, I hope she'll be like you.
If another girl smiles, I hope she smiles like you.
I hope that she will be what I remember you to be.
If I find another girl, I hope she's just like you.

We could've lasted forever
But that's not how it worked out.
We came down to the fork in the road
And both took different routes.

I'll never forget
The love that we both shared,
The way we held each other tight,
And said how much we cared.

If I find someone else, I hope she'll be like you.
If I find another love, I hope she loves like you.
I hope that her and me can be like we used to be.
If I find another girl, I want her just like you.

You're a hard act to follow.
You're one of a kind.
I don't ever want to forget you
Or keep you out of my mind.

Girl, what I'm sayin'
Is nothing but true.
If I find another girl,
I hope she's just like you.

If I find someone else, I hope she'll be like you.
If I find another love, I hope it's just as true.
I hope that it will be like it was for you and me.
If I love another girl, I'll love her just like you.
