No Survivors
Not one of my better poems, but it does seem to typify what happens when you don't take relationships seriously.
We saw it coming,
But didn't care.
Now it's too late
And it's not fair.
Didn't take seriously
The love that we shared.
Played too many games.
We weren't prepared.
This kind of love leaves no survivors.
This kind of love won't let us win.
We should've watched what we were doin'.
Too late to notice once it all ends.
We blinded ourselves
By turning deaf ears.
Didn't listen to anyone
And now find ourselves in tears.
We said it wouldn't matter.
We'll just let things go.
Didn't think it'd make a difference,
But now we know.
Love like this leaves no survivors.
It shows us no mercy at all.
How did we know this would happen?
Why must we take so hard a fall?
Love ain't a game.
Now we must fall.
When you love like this--
No survivors at all.
