Say That You'll Be Mine

Of all the songs I have written, this is the only one that I have ever actually had recorded.  In hoping that a very good friend of mine would want to be more than friends, I wrote this, and approached my pastor's son to come up with a piano arrangement and to sing it onto a tape for me so I could present it to the young lady I hoped would soon be my girlfriend.  It didn't work out that way, but she did enjoy the song and probably has the only recording ever made.  Who knows?  I may end up doing something like that again, but it'll probably be awhile.

We met as high school kids.
Who ever thought I'd come to feel like this?
That your face would be the one I'd miss?

I've asked you this before.
We are friends, but I want to be more.
Please don't be offended if I ask you just once more.

Say that you'll be mine.
If only for a short amount of time.
You know that it's true
When I say I love you.
So hold me, and say that you'll be mine.

I'm not asking for the world,
But if you wanted it, I'd give it to you, girl.
You're worth more to me than the biggest pearl.

I'm a stranger to romance,
But when I'm with you I feel like I could dance.
All I'm asking is for you to give me half a chance.

Say that you'll be mine.
We just may last until the end of time.
But what else can I say?
I love you more each day.
So hold me, and say that you'll be mine.

Say that you'll be mine.
There may not ever be a better time.
What else can I do
But keep saying I love you,
And hold you, and love you, and tell you
That I want you to say that you'll be mine.
