The Best Feelings Fade Away

This one shows that however painful a breakup can be, it is possible to move on from it.  This was written before I actually went through one, and it's interesting to see how much I am able to relate to it today.

When we were together
We had a great time
And I thought that forever
You would be mine.

But we had to break up
And go our separate ways.
Through time we lost that love
Because we couldn't make it stay.

You said you'd always love me.
With me you'd always stay.
It's a shame for me to see
The best feelings fade away.

It hurt me for awhile.
You just meant so much.
But soon I didn't need your smile
And could live without your touch.

I just can't explain
Why it happens like this.
Our hearts that were once slain
No longer need each other's kiss.

Time healed a wound
That tortured me day by day
And so very soon
The best feelings faded away.

It seems the best thing -
To forget and go on.
But to me this loss of feelings
Is quite a phenomenon.

Now we hardly speak a word.
We rarely even say hi.
The best feelings are no longer stored
In our hears and I don't know why.

We lost something good.
We should've made it stay.
I can't say why, but I wish I could,
That the best feelings faded away.

The best feelings fade away
And go to kingdom come.
We just couldn't make 'em stay
And so we lost 'em, every one.
