Too Scared to Say I Love You

An early poem.

I'm in love with you
And afraid to let you know.
They say you're in love with me
And afraid to let it show.

We can have it all.
We have nothing to prove.
But neither of us wants
To make the first move.

Too scared to say I love you.
Too scared to even say hi.
Too afraid to show our feelings
And neither one even knows why.

Maybe it's because
We've been hurt in the past
And if we do say yes
We're scared it won't last.

We don't want to be hurt
But we don't want to wait
Though it hurts more now
Cause we won't take the bait.

If we could say it once,
Once without a doubt
There would be no problem
But we can't get those words out.

What will it take?
What must we do?
I know you want me
And I really want you.

Our hearts say yes.
Experience says no.
Too scared to say I love you
But we've nowhere else to go.
